On February 2, AERA Council approved returning the AERA Annual Meeting back to a five-day format to help change the pace and climate of the meeting and expand opportunities for attendees. Holding the meeting over five days will reduce the number of concurrent sessions and presentations, and provide attendees more time to attend sessions, network with each other, and take advantage of the exhibits and other events and activities.
In 2025, in Denver, the meeting will start on Wednesday, April 23, and conclude on Sunday, April 27.
Prior to the 2023 Annual Meeting, AERA’s conference was traditionally five days long. In 2018, Council decided to move to a compressed four-day conference beginning in 2020, although implementation was delayed until 2023 due to the pandemic.
“The anticipated cost savings to attendees did not materialize since shifting to four full days did not reduce travel expenses for most,” said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine. “Returning to a five-day span will increase attendance and engagement in sessions and expand quality time for informal exchange. We look forward to hosting a high-quality conference that will provide participants with an even greater experience.”
Additionally, in 2025, submitters will have the option of electing to submit a paper that, if accepted, will not be presented onsite, but instead will be presented virtually in the AERA i-Presentation Gallery. Authors can be contacted for chats or video sessions through the Gallery during the Annual Meeting. There will be a registration fee for presenting authors who choose the virtual-only option.
Papers submitted for presentation only through the AERA i-Presentation Gallery will be peer reviewed along with all other submissions. This option provides an opportunity for those not able to attend the Annual Meeting to have their work reviewed and, if accepted, made available as part of the official conference proceedings. Authors of accepted virtual papers may also elect to have their full papers available through the AERA Online Paper Repository as well as presented in the i-Presentation Gallery.
