Heidi Schweingruber has been named the new director of the Board on Science Education (BOSE) at the National Research Council (NRC) of the National Academies. Schweingruber, who is an AERA member, has been the deputy director of BOSE since 2008 and served as study director for A Framework for K–12 Science Education (2011), among many other projects.
She succeeds Martin Storksdieck, who left NRC for the Center for Research on Lifelong STEM Learning at Oregon State University. Prior to joining NRC in 2004, Schweingruber worked at the Institute of Education Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in developmental psychology and anthropology from the University of Michigan.
In announcing Schweingruber's new appointment, Robert M. Hauser, executive director of NRC’s Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education, said, "Schweingruber's tenure as deputy director and her leadership on a number of flagship projects within BOSE will serve the Board well as it continues to inform and promote evidence-based science education reform. She brings a unique strength and focus to BOSE's activities.”
