The influence of school leadership and school professional community on student achievement
FINAL REPORT:
This study of a large nationally representative sample of high schools validates and extends evidence from studies of elementary schools that school transformational leadership and professional community are associated with student achievement. The design of the study overcomes weaknesses of most of the previous research on leadership in effective schools by controlling for prior student achievement, accounting for intervening and contextual variables, modeling effects on rate of learning between 10th and 12th grades, and using multivariate and multilevel methods. Hence, this study addresses the weaknesses and builds on the understandings of past research on how school leadership and professional community affect student outcomes.
