Workplace predictors of secondary school teachers' commitment: An exploration of career stages
FINAL REPORT:
The increasing concerns about attracting and retaining teachers have highlighted the importance of organizational commitment in recent years. Several studies have identified demographic and workplace predictors of organizational commitment amond elementary teachers (Rosenholtz & Simpson, 1990). Fewer studies, however, have examined predictors or organizational commitment among secondary teachers. To address this limitation, this research proposes to examine demographic and workplace predictors of organizational commitment using the SASS data set. These variables will be used to predict four types of commitment (career commitment, work commitment, planned retention and school involvement). Futhermore, because research suggests that predictors of organizational commitment differ for teachers in different stages of their careers (Rosenholtz & Simpson, 1990), the data will be analyzed separately for teachers in three career stages.
