Education in the Professions (I)
Message from the Vice President
Welcome to Division I – Education in the Professions. The purpose of this Division is to further educational research, development, and evaluation in the professions by supporting scholarly presentations and publications; providing opportunities for professional growth and recognition; enhancing communication, outreach, and networking among members; and improving the capacity of the educational research profession to inform practice and policy as it relates to education in the professions.
Over the years, Division I has distinguished itself from the rest of the AERA Divisions by promoting a research agenda in education for the professions. As the Vice President, my vision is to further promote the high quality of research on education in the professions through partnerships and collaborations among scholars across the various professions, across various institutions, and among junior scholars and their mentors. Division I is a place where innovations and creative perspectives in professions education are introduced, discussed, debated, and disseminated.
Three times a year, Division I publishes a newsletter, PERQ, to inform the community about the most recent educational activities and the news from its membership and to promote exchange of ideas and intellectual discussions. The Spring issue, published just before the annual meeting, reproduces all the abstracts of the Division I presentations and symposia and includes the latest announcements for those planning to attend the meeting.
All those who are interested in active involvement in Division, here is a list of the standing committees:
