Call for Nominations for Division C Vice President (2012-2015)

On the behalf of the Division C Nominating Committee, I would like to request your nominations for the office of Vice President of Division C for a three-year term beginning at the conclusion of the AERA Annual Meeting in 2012. If you would like to nominate a Division C member for this important office (or nominate yourself) please send me the name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address of your nominee by Friday, July 30. Past Division C Vice Presidents include: Gale Sinatra, Richard Mayer, Barbara McCombs, Patricia Alexander, Susan Goldman, Margaret McKeown, Marilyn Jager Adams, Linnea Ehri, Katherine Au, Louise Cherry Wilkinson, Penelope Peterson, Joel Levin, James Greeno, Richard Snow, and David Berliner. Division C Welcome Message from Vice President Gale Sinatra

If you had a chance to join us in Denver, you know we had a fantastic meeting. You also know that the close of AERA 2010 marked the end of Vice President Rich Mayer’s term of office. Rich has been a beacon for research quality not only for the Division but for AERA. Many of the significant changes you have noticed to AERA’s policies and procedures designed to enhance research quality were championed by Rich. We thank Rich for his extraordinary contributions to Division C.

If you did not get a chance to attend our business meeting and reception in Denver, let me fill you in on my vision for my term as Division C VP. First and perhaps foremost, I want to continue Rich’s visionary leadership in the area of promoting and sustaining research quality. In support of research, I will work toward establishing an Early Career Research Award to recognize the amazing young talent we have in the Division. Next, I want Division C to be an inclusive and supporting environment that provides opportunities for professional development and engagement for graduate students, junior researchers, and scholars from multiple perspectives. Toward that end, I am establishing an Ad Hoc Membership Committee with a focus on broadening and diversifying our membership by reaching out to under-represented groups, individuals from disciplines whose representation has diminished over the years, and those who are in SIG groups that align well with Division C. Finally, I hope to move us toward a 21st Century model of professional engagement. I will be working with AERA to upgrade our Website and make it a useful and interactive source of Division C news and information that can serve as a means of outreach to new as well as existing members. My goal is take Division C as far into the electronic age as possible during my term by expanding our use of social networking tools and resources.

I look forward to working with members of my Executive Committee on these initiatives including my Program Chair for 2011, Chris Wolters, and newly elected Secretary of Division C, Barbara Greene. I hope you are excited about some of these initiatives and I hope you will join me in making them a reality. I am open to hearing your ideas for enhancing our future as a Division. Together we can build on Division C’s successes and look forward to a bright future. Thank you.
