The program awards grants of up to $35,000 for conferences intended to break new ground in substantive areas of inquiry, stimulate new lines of study on issues that have been largely unexplored, or develop innovative research methods or techniques that can contribute more generally to education research. NSF Political Science Funding Restrictions Set Dangerous Precedent Political science funding decisions at the National Science Foundation will no longer be determined by independent review—setting a dangerous precedent for all social and behavioral science and all of science. Read more NRC Holds Workshop on Common Rule, Webcast Available Online In March the National Research Council held a two-day public workshop, “Proposed Revisions to the Common Rule in Relation to the Behavioral and Social Sciences.” A summary report is expected later this spring. NRC to Host Open Access Public Comment Meetings The National Research Council’s Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education is holding two public comment meetings on increasing access to the results of federally funded scientific research. New York Times Letter to the Editor Cites AERA Amicus Brief In a recent letter to the editor published in the New York Times, William Kidder, assistant provost at the University of California, Riverside, cited AERA’s amicus brief in the Fisher v.
